What is a colony?

• A place that has certain traits in common with other places near it
• a place where people can't practice their religion freely
• a place that's settled by people inside their home country but does not follow the rules of that home country
• a  place that's settled by people outside their home country and belongs to or is ruled by that home country

Why did most people come to the New England colonies?

• They wanted the freedom to practice their religion the way they wanted.
• They wanted to make money by working in factories.
• They were taken from their home countries and forced to work there as slaves.
• They were looking for a more diverse place to live.

What is an indentured servant?

• a person hired to watch the slaves as they worked and to punish them if they did not work hard
• a person who does a job to help the community or society as a whole
• a person who builds and repairs ships
• a person who agrees to work for someone in Colonial America for a fixed amount of time in order to pay for the ocean voyage
