What is the Principle of Superposition?

• that layers of sediment initially extend laterally in all directions; in other words, they are laterally continuous.

• the principle that in a series of stratified sedimentary rocks the lowest stratum is the oldest

What is Constructive interference?

• when the resultant displacement from rest is larger than the individual wave's displacement.

• occurs when the resultant displacement from rest is smaller than the individual wave's displacement from rest.

• When two waves interfere (meet each other at a particular point) the resulting wave will be the sum of the individual waves, at each point.

What is destructive interference?

• he attractive forces between unlike molecules. They are caused by forces acting between two substances

• intermolecular attraction that explains the process of water flow upwards (against the force of gravity) through the xylem of plants.

• occurs when the resultant displacement from rest is smaller than the individual wave's displacement from rest.
