Le passé composé with avoir

The passé-composé is used to refer to things that ....

• have happened in the past and have a consequence in the present

• have happened in the past and are now over

• are going to happen in the immediate future

To form the Passé-Composé, you need :

• 2 words : subject + past participle

• 3 words : subject + helping verb + past participle

• 4 words : subject + helping verb + avoir + past participle

All the regular infinitives in -er have a participle ending in :

• -i

• -é

• -u
