Kevin is a very talented soccer player. One reason he's so good is because he has played for many years. Another reason is because he practices every day after school. You can always find Kevin on the soccer field. He'll be kicking the ball around and practicing different kicks into the goal. He's sure to make the all-star team this year.

Yesterday, firefighters visited Elm Elementary to talk about fire safety. The firefighters concentrated on safety at home, and the students learned many important things. Students were taught that all electrical cords should be checked for fraying and that outlets should never be overloaded. They also learned that each family should have an escape plan for getting out of the house in case of a fire. In addition, the students learned that every house needs a fire alarm.

Aunt Amy bakes the most delicious chocolate chip cookies. I can;t figure out what it is that makes them so good, but I know there's something special in her recipe. Unfortunately, she never tells what it is. Whenever I ask her what the ingredients are, she smiles and says, "I can't tell you. It's a family recipe".

Last night, Shana and Andrea gazed at thousands of stars twinkling in the sky. Shana had never seen the Big and Little Dippers, so Andrea pointed them out to her. Then Shana found the constellation of Cancer, which looks like the outline of a big crab in the sky. Later in the evening, Andrea pointed out stars that formed the shape of a heart. They had lots of fun looking at the stars.

Most cultures have specials "coming of age" ceremonies. In the Jewish community, it's called a "bar mitzvah" for boys and it's celebrated around the boy's 13th birthday. The even signals the passage from childhood to adulthood. Jewish girls also take part in a similar even, called the "bat mitzvah". Boys and girls who have celebrated these important events are considered members of the adult Jewish community.

Snow skiing is Karen's very favorite sport. She especially loves to ski on cold, sunny days when there's fresh powder on the ground. Karen loves feeling the win din her hair as she flies down the slopes, and she likes to see the spray coming off the back of her skis. She doesn't even mind if she falls, because it's like falling on a pile of feathers. At the end of the day, she loves to sip hot chocolate at the lodge.

Theo loves to read mystery stories. Last summer he read The Case of the Missing Cat, The Lost Shoe, and the entire "Missing Pieces" series. Knowing how much he loves mystery books, Theo had no problem selecting a book for his class book report. Theo wrote about the book Student Detectives. The report was great, but the best part was when he took the class on a hunt for clues around the schoolyard.

Mr. Watson is my best friend's dad. We all love him because he plans fun things for us to do. He takes up to the movies, baseball games, and the park to play basketball. Mr. Watson helps us play better by giving us pointers on shooting baskets. Last month he even took us camping and taught us how to water-ski on the river. We learn a lot from Mr. Watson, and he's fun to be with.

Animals help people in many different ways. Horses use their strength to pull plows and cards, while strong elephants carry people and heavy packs. Dogs are also helpful, because they can be trained to help police officers and people who are visually impaired. Animals also provide us with things we needs such as wool, eggs, milk, meat, and much more.
