The National Monument, or “Monas”, as it is popularly called, is one of the monuments built during the Sukarno era of fierce nationalism, Monas is famous among Indonesia people as the highest historic building in Jakarta. It was established to commemorate Indonesia’s struggle for independence from the Dutch colonialism. Since it was opened to the public, this National Monument has become one of the popular tourist destinations in Indonesia.

Monas is a tower with a height of 132 meters. The building has as its special characteristic the flame shape, covered with gold foil, that you can see on the top of the tower. If visitors go down to the base of the tower,they will see a museum measuring 80 x 80 meters. Ruang Kemerdekaan is in the cup part of Monas. Actually, it is an amphitheater within this building.
