This cultural region was located between the Cascade and Rocky Mountains. It had hot summers and freezing winters. Large rivers provided water to the region. Trees grew only near the mountains, but other areas had thick grasses and plants. The Yakima lived in this area.

This cultural region extended from the Atlantic Ocean, along the Gulf of Mexico, all the way to East Texas. This region was hot and humid, especially in the summer. Part of this region included swamps that were home to animals like deer, alligators, and snakes. The Seminole lived here.

This cultural region covered states like Arizona and New Mexico. It extended to northern Mexico. There were mesas, canyons, and deserts in this region. The climate was hot in the summers and freezing in the winters. The Hopi lived in this region.

This cultural region covered a huge area from the Mississippi River Valley to the Rocky Mountains, and from Canada to Texas. The region had hot summers and cold winters. There were few trees, but large grasslands were home to many grazing animals like deer, antelope, and buffalo. The Sioux lived in this region.

This cultural region stretched from the Pacific Coast to the Sierra Nevada mountains and into the Great Basin. Part of the region was desert, with extreme heat and cold and little rainfall. The other part had a mild climate and rice resources like huge redwood forests and shores filled with clams and other shellfish. The Pomo lived here.

This cultural region extended from the Atlantic coast through the Ohio Valley to the Mississippi River. The region had four distinct seasons. Streams and rivers crisscrossed the region and wound through forests of oak, maple, and birch trees. The forests were home to animals such as deer, beavers, and turkeys. Algonquian tribes lived in this region.
