Excel functions

Cell orientation allows you to :

• change cell contents from number to text

• color the text under condition

• change the direction of the text

• change the appearance of the cell

to count any fields containing numbers we use:

• countIF function

• counta function

• count function

• countIFs function

to add the contents of a certain field, we:

• write the cell reference of each number seperated by a plus sign

• write the sum function with cell references seperated by a plus sign

• start with equal sign then use the sum funtion with the plus

• start with equal sign, sum function containing the first cell address and the last.

to find out how many persons are there in a certain field, the following function is applied

• average(--:--)

• count(--:--)

• counta(--;--)

• counta(--:--)

I need to find the sum of salaries for those who live in "dubai"

• =sumif(a:a12,dubai,d1:d)

• =sumif(a1;a12,"dubai,d1;d12)

• =sumif(a1:12,"dubai",d1:12)

• =sum(a1:a12,"dubai",d1:d12)

a company needs to highlight with red the salaries more than 8000 drh

the structure of countif is:

• contif(criteria,range of cells)

• countif(range of cells, criteria, range of cells)

• countif(range of cells, criteria)

the structure of sumif is:

• sumif(range of cells to be sdded,criteria, range of cells to be tested)

• sumif(criteria,range of cells to be tested)

• sumif(range of cells to be tested,criteria,range of cells to be added)

• if(value-if-true,logical-test,value-if-false)

• if(logical-test,value-if-false-value-if-true)

we need to create a conditional function that prints out passed or failed
