In the middle of a bright day, I planned to have lunch in a new restaurant. I drove along the West Road at a reasonable speed.

About fifty meters before the crossroads, a pedestrian who was walking on the pavement suddenly ran across the road in front of my car. I was so surprised that I braked as hard as I could. I was really panic but I had to swerve to avoid the pedestrian. I crashed into a car which was parked by the side of the road.

Thanksgiving Day is my favourite holiday mostly because of the ‘big’ family dinner. And last year, as usual, we-my extended family and I came flocking down from all over the country to sit at my grandparent’s lavish dinner table. Near each end of the table, sat two huge steaming pots of creamy mushroom-asparagus-and-chicken soup and two big bowls of salad. In neat rows along the length of the table, were three bowl-full of mashed potatoes, three hefty plates of corn, and three large pans of pumpkin pie. And then there they were, right in the centre of everything; five jars of cranberry sauce arranged randomly around the stars of the night’s show: two bulky, stuffed and roasted whole turkeys and two pans of succulent meat loaf.

Time and food mustn’t be wasted, so I started with the savoury soup, which was such a perfect appetizer. Next, the salad: crispy lettuce shreds, spongy mushroom chunks, crunchy paprika dice, sour tomato wedges, sweet carrot slices, cool cucumber cuts, spicy onion rings and nutty red beans blended well with the zesty garlic-black pepper-olive oil and lemon vinaigrette. After that, the mouth watering turkey and meat loaf were in total agreement with the velvety mashed potatoes and tangy cranberry sauce. I was getting stuffy, but I supposed I could still fit a half of the juicy corn on the cob and a slice of the tasty pumpkin pie. Finally, I washed everything down with a tall glass of fresh, cold apple juice. I was officially in heaven and it was indeed a day to give thanks.
