Writer's Workshop Rules and Procedures pt 1

Respect people means I should:

• Respect my classmates

• Respect my teachers

• Respect myself

• Respect others even if they are not in the room

Respect property means I should take good care of....

• Anything in the classroom.

• My classmate's belongings.

• The classroom itself.

• My own belongings.

Respect learning means I should.....

• Try as hard as I can on every assignment.

• Ask questions when I am not sure what to do.

• Use my time in class wisely.

• Never act in a way that prevents others from learning.

If I am in the classroom when the bell rings, but I am not at my seat with my materials ready, I am....

• On time.

• Tardy.

When the bell rings, I should be....

• Talking to my friends until the teacher tells me it's time to begin.

• Working on my math homework.

• Playing games on my ipad.

• In my seat with my materials ready silently awaiting instructions.

Working silently means....

• I am not talking unless I really quietly ask my friend a question.

• My mouth is closed and I am not making any sounds.

• I am humming to myself or drumming with my pen.

• I only talking a little, but I'm also getting my work done.

It's the end of class and I haven't gotten anything done. This is....

• My teacher's fault because he should have told me what to do.

• Not that big of a deal because I'll do my work later.

• My fault because it is my responsibility to find out what I have to do and ask for help if I need it.

• no one's fault. I'm just not that good at writing.

When I leave the classroom, I should....

• Leave scraps of paper on the floor.

• Clean up after myself and neatly put my folder and notebook away.

• Leave my notebook on the desk and make the teacher pick it up for me.

• Leave my Ipad in the classroom, and interrupt class later to get it.

If I am missing any of my materials, I need to....

• Ask to borrow materials in the middle of the lesson.

• Just give up and not do my work.

• Ask my peers for materials while we are supposed to be working quietly.

• Ask to borrow materials before the start of class.

Take two means....

• I need to go out into the hallway for two minutes and cool down so that when I enter the classroom I am ready to make better choices.

• The teacher is angry and wants to get rid of me.

• I can stay out in the hallway as long as I want.

• I should argue with the teacher about why this is unfair.
