Practice 1: The people below all want to visit a water-sports center. On the opposite page there are descriptions of eight water-sports centers. Decide which center would be the most suitable for the following people.

Victor and Olga need a personal instructor to teach

them better powerboat skills, and to find their way safely around the water

off the coast. They want to go without booking in advance.

3.Harry wants to find a center where top people in water-sports train and where he can measure his skills to see if he could compete professionally. However, he can’t afford anything too expensive.

• C. Blore Center

  If you’re looking for somewhere to provide staff training, then the Blore Center is perfect. There’s a range of activities, with powerboats, sailing or an indoor sports center - ideal for team-building. There’s a campsite for overnight stays but it’s extremely basic.

• E. Padcaster Center

  The huge lake at the Padcaster Center is perfect for water-skiing and sailing. It’s regularly used by sportspeople preparing for the Olympics, and has a cycle path around the outside for your coach to accompany you on land and check your speed. See how you compare with the champions! Prices are very fair.

Tania and Paolo can already waterski, and want to

try another challenging water-sport. They want to go in the evenings, and be

able to eat at the center afterwards.

• A. Fossey Center

  The Fossey Center has indoor and outdoor activities. Arrange a session at the big lake, with water-sports facilities good enough for even professionals to practice on, plus indoor football and tennis. No individual training is available. However, there’s no need to book in advance as the Center is rarely busy.

• B. Marine water

  The Marine water website shows their whole range of watersports from sailing to the exciting experience of controlling a boat on a fast-moving river. The route is used by professional athletes in training, so it is lit until late, while the Center’s restaurant serves delicious meals. Booking is recommended.

5.Laura and Adam want to celebrate Laura’s birthday at a water-sports center with friends, some of whom prefer to do indoor sports. They’d like to have a good idea of what the place is like before going.
