Copyright and Fair Use

Why does copyright matter?

• It pays the artists directly

• It doesn't matter that much

• It protects creative work

• So everyone can take anyone's creative work

Who does copyright protect?

• Only celebrities

• Anyone who creates

• Only adults who create

• Anyone who copies creative work

Fair use means you can use copyrighted works that are not your own to:

• listen or watch while you are in school for entertainment purposes

• make a parody of and then upload to the web for the world to see

• borrow parts of for a school project

• copy, change it slightly and claim as your own

When you use copyrighted work, you should:

• give credit to the creator

• ignore all copyrights, because it's for school

• don't worry about who owns it

• copy it exactly as is

• Build on someone else's work, but transform it to add new meaning to it
