El condicional

The conditional tense has TWO uses.

• verdadero

• falso

The TWO uses for the conditional are:

• 1. to express what you will do in the future. 2. to conjecture/guess about the present.

• to express what you WOULD do (hypothetical). 2. to conjecture/guess about the past (swmp)

The stem for the conditional is

• to drop the -ar, -er, -ir from the infinitive.

• The stem IS the infinitive or irregular stem if it has one.

To form the conditional tense, what endings do you add to the infinitive or irregular stem if it has one?

• o, as, a, amos, áis, an

• ía, ías, ía, íamos, íais, ían

I would study but I am tired.

• Yo estudiaría pero estoy cansado.

• Yo estudio pero estoy cansado.

Would you run with me tomorrow?

• ¿Correrías conmigo mañana?

• ¿Corrías conmigo mañana?

The class would stay but the bell just rang.

• La clase se queda pero la campana acaba de sonar.

• La clase se quedaría pero la campana acaba de sonar.

We would go but we have to work.

• Iríamos pero tenemos que trabajar.

• Íbamos pero tenemos que trabajar.

Would they write a letter to their grandparents?

• ¿Les escriben una carta a sus abuelos?

Irregular conditional stems: Quick,Cool, People,Have,Sushi

(Querer, Caber, Poder, Haber, Saber)

• drop the final e to get the conditional stem.

• stay in their infinitive form
