When do use Comparative Adjectives?

• To compare 2 things.

• To say one person, things are better than the other.

Put the sentence in the correct order and create a Comparative Adjective:

There are two ways to make or to "form" a comparative adjective:

short adjectives: add "-er" / long adjectives: use "more"

• more long / difficulter

• longer / more difficult

• shorter / more comfortable

• more shorter / comfortabler

1-syllable adjectives: old, fast

• That car is more fast than mine.

• That car is faster than mine.

• She's more old than me.

• She's older than me.

2-syllable adjectives ending in -y: happy, easy

• happer

• happier

• easer

• easier

Variation: if the adjective ends in -e, just add -r

• See you later!

• See you more late!

Variation: if the adjective ends in consonant, vowel, consonant, double the last consonant

• Big - Biger

• Big - Bigger

• Hot - Hotter

• Hot - Hoter

Variation: if the adjective ends in -y, drop the -y and add -ier: Happy

Long adjectives: use more : Modern

• The smartphone is morderner than the MP3 Player.

• The smartphone is more modern than the MP3 Player.

all adjectives of 3 or more syllables: expensive

• This watch is more expansive than that one.

• This watch is expansivier than that one.

• This watch is expansiver than that one.
