What is a PRIMARY ELECTION?

• How each political party chooses the person from their party who will run for president in the General Election.

• Where people get together and compete in a bowl game.

• How a candidate decides things.

What is the GENERAL ELECTION?

• The final election that will decide who will be President of the United States.

• The first election to decide who is nominated to represent each party.

• The final election that will decide who is the candidate for each party.

What is a CANDIDATE?

• Someone who is being considered for a job - in this case, someone who is being considered for President.

• A backup player on the team.

• Someone who only writes political speeches.

What does NOMINATE mean?

• When a political party nominates someone, they officially choose them to run for president.

• A final vote for the President of the United States.

• When a political party passes a law.

What are PRIMARIES and CAUCUSES?

• Candidates from each party try to win over the people in their party. Then, members of each party vote for who they want to represent them later, in the General Election.

• People gathering together to directly vote in a general election.

• Candidates from each party write speeches and post them on YouTube to gain views.

What is a NATIONAL CONVENTION?

• Each party holds a big event! They nominate, or officially choose, who from their party will be running for president.

• A big party where people write songs and make speeches just to get YouTube followers.

• Each political party throws a big party to celebrate the President's birthday.

What is a PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE?

• Presidential candidates hire teams of people to write formal letters to major newspapers in order to get donations.

• The presidential candidates formally argue with each other about important issues, and try to convince as many people as possible to vote for them.

• The current president debates other leaders from all around the world.
