We use the simple past to describe

• an action that is completed in the past.

• an action repeated in the present.

To form the past tense of a regular verb you generally

• add ( s ) to the verb

• add ( ed ) to the verb

To form the past tense of a verb ending with e

• add ( d ) to the verb

• add ( ed ) to the verb

• there is a consonant before the y in try

• there is a vowel before the y in try.

• there is a consonant before the last letter.

• there is one vowel before the last letter.
