When working with tools and machines, your state of mind should be…

• Looking around, checking out what others are doing.

• Totally focused on your project.

• Listening to what the teacher and your classmates are saying.

• You can multi-task, talking to a friend and such if you are good at it.

When is it OK to mess around, running, yelling and such in the shop?

• Anytime the teacher is not watching.

• When you are having a bad day and need some attention.

• Never, horseplay is not permitted because it could cause an accident.

• It’s OK to mess around just a little if you only do it a couple times a week.

When working around tools or machines, if you have long hair you should…

• Have your friend hold your hair out of the way for you.

• Be careful not to lean over too much so your hair stays out of the way.

• Work with it for today but get a haircut as soon as you can.

• Tie your hair back with a hair tie or rubber band.

If an accident happens and you are hurt, you should…

• Inform the teacher right away.

• Be tough and finish your project.

• Run out of the shop and go to the nurse’s office.

• Wash up, put a band-aid on it and tell someone when you get home.

If you find a broken tool you should…

• Try to fix it so you can work on your project.

• Put the tool back and get another one.

• Throw the tool away.

• Inform the teacher.

It is important to remove debris and have a clean workspace because…

• Any debris could cause you to make a mistake on your project

• You could have an accident and hurt yourself.

• Having stuff in your way is a pain.

• All of these.

Any spilled liquids should be cleaned up right away because…

• Spills make the shop messy.

• Some liquids could possibly cause a fire.

• Someone could slip and fall if they step in the spill.

• All of these.

If you discover a frayed or exposed power cord you should...

• Yank on it to unplug it from the outlet right away.

• Get some electrical tape and wrap the cord.

• Inform the teacher right away.

• Hold the cord and bend it to see if that causes a change in power.

When carrying any sharp tool around the shop the point should be held.

• Toward the ceiling.

• Outwards to protect yourself.

• Toward yourself to protect others.

• Down and away.

When carrying tools and supplies around the shop…

• A. Move as fast as you can to get back to your work area.

• B. Yell at others to move out of your way.

• C. Walk slowly and hold the materials carefully.
