The Israelites were instructed to kill an unblemished male lamb and smear its blood on the doorposts as a sign to the death angel to pass over and spare their firstborn.

• a. God gave these instructions to see if the Israelites would obey.

• b. Jesus Christ was sacrificed of so that our sins can be forgiven by His shed blood.
