THE SECOND CONDITIONAL DESCRIBES:

• situations which are imaginary, hypothetical or impossible

• situations about the real world, general truths, such as scientific facts.

• situations which express the past consequence of an unrealistic action or situation in the past.

• situations which are likely to happen or have a real possibility of happening
