Upper Extremity Positioning Part 1

Finger 2nd-5th PA Projection: Patient Position _________________

• Seated at the end of the radiographic table

• Patient's height and table height so the forearm is resting on table

• The shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints should be at the same level

• The entire upper limb at the same level

Finger 2nd -5th PA Projection: Part Position _________________

• Forearm resting on the table with the medial/ulnar surface side down

• Patient's height and table height so the forearm is resting on table

• Place hand with palmer surface side down

• Fingers fully extended and slightly spread apart

Finger 2nd-5th PA Oblique Projection: Patient Position _________________

• The shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints should be at the same level

• Patient's height and table height so the forearm is resting on table

• The entire upper limb at the same level

• Seated at the end of the radiographic table

Finger 2nd-5th PA Oblique Projection: Part Position _________________

• Fingers fully extended and slightly spread apart

• Patient's height and table height so the forearm is resting on table

• Place palmar surface down and rotate hand laterally until digits are 30 degrees oblique

• Place palmar surface down and rotate hand laterally until digits are 45 degrees oblique

Finger 1st AP Projection: Patient Position _________________

• Patient's height and table height so the forearm is resting on table

• The entire upper limb at the same level

• Seated at the end of the radiographic table

• The shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints should be at the same level

Finger 1st AP Projection: Part Position _________________

• Forearm resting on the table with the medial/ulnar surface side down

• Place hand in extreme medial rotation

• Resting thumb on IR

• Fingers fully extended and slightly spread apart

Finger 1st PA Oblique Projection: Patient Position _________________

• The shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints should be at the same level

• Seated at the end of the radiographic table

• The entire upper limb at the same level

• Patient's height and table height so the forearm is resting on table

Finger 1st PA Oblique Projection: Part Position _________________

• Abduct thumb

• Patient's height and table height so the forearm is resting on table

• Place hand palmar surface down

• Ulnar deviate hand slightly

Finger 1st Lateral Projection: Patient Position _________________

• The entire upper limb at the same level

• The shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints should be at the same level

• Patient's height and table height so the forearm is resting on table

• Seated at the end of the radiographic table

Finger 1st Lateral Projection: Part Position _________________

• Adjust arching of hand until true lateral position of the index finger

• Adjust arching of hand until true lateral position of the thumb

• Seated at the end of the radiographic table

• Place hand in natural position palmar surface down
