Why was the Klondike difficult to get to?

• It could only be crossed by boat.

• It was far away, had difficult mountains to cross and harsh weather.

• There were many wild animals that you had to be very careful of.

What does a prospector do?

• He makes jewelry from gold.

• He hunts for moose and deer.

• He mines for gold and other minerals.

What should a prospector do if he found gold?

• He should keep digging to find all the gold.

• He should immediately travel to register the claim.

• He should first put posts (sticks) around where the gold was found.

What is a claim?

• the right to mine (look for gold) on public land

• the right to build a house on public land

• the right to hunt on public land

Why should a claim be registered?

• to get money from the government

• to legally keep someone from taking it

• so that you can build a house on the land and live there forever

What happened if a prospector left his claim for more than three days and it wasn't registered?

• Another prospector could jump the claim.

• The government would take it.

• He would have to go before a judge in Dawson and explain himself.

What were the problems related to Loren Hall's claim?

• Loren didn't find any gold in his claim.

• Loren's claim is not registered.

• Loren had an accident on the way to register his claim.
