Why is Luke not allowed to go to school, and into town like his two older brothers?

• He's too naughty, and he does not obey his parents or teachers.

• Children under the age of 15 are not allowed to go into town or to school.

• Families are only able to have two children. Luke was the third child born into his family. He needs to hide, so he doesn't get discovered by the Population Police.

• His parents did not pay enough taxes for all of their family members to be able to take part in these things.

Why was the woods cut down next to Luke's family's farm and house?

• HIs family no longer wanted the woods next to their property.

• It was cut down to make room to build a mall.
