We could work out a rough location of a person calling from a land line. For example a phone number starting with 0141 we could assume is phoning from in and around Glasgow. What category of personal data does this fall under?

Inferred Data comes from volunteered and observed data. As land lines have area codes we could assume the caller with the 0141 was phoning from Glasgow but it could also have been Paisley or Johnstone.

New drivers are encouraged to sign up to apps by their insurance company which monitor their driving performance. Users may volunteer to use apps like these which then observe data - but wont be directly observed by these apps?
