Earth has different types of landforms. This means that Earth is shaped in different ways. One type of landform is a valley. This is a low area that often has higher land on at least two of its sides. Rivers can cause a valley to form between two hills. This happens over many years. As water flows, it slowly breaks away pieces of the soil and rock under it. These pieces are then carried away. Just like water, wind can also do the same thing. This breaking down of soil and rock is called weathering. The carrying away of this rock or soil is called erosion.
