What does it mean to say that a sacrament is 'efficacious'?

• What it symbolizes really happens - it has an effect

• It's just a symbol - nothing happens. 

• Sacraments are as old as dinosaurs   

• They are delicious

What does the water in baptism symbolize?

• It symbolises the cleansing of original sin and God's Grace actually cleanses a person of this sin.

• It symbolizes the importance of the church being cleaned every week  

• It symbolises that a person is getting clean in order to attend church and so any dirt and grime is washed away.  

• That we need to stay hydrated as Catholics.

Why are sacraments used by the Church?

• Because we are physical as well as spiritual beings sacraments help us to understand what is happening when we see physical actions that represent what is happening.

• Because it means we get to have a lot of meetings

• Because they are a great excuse to have a party afterwards and so people like to get them.

• Because we like water

When was the Eucharist 'instituted' (created)?

• At the Ascension

•  At the Last Supper

• When Jesus was born (Christmas)

Why can we celebrate the sacraments today?

•  Because the line of priests can be traced back to the Apostles who were given responsibility for the sacraments by Jesus.

• Because church buildings are set up with baptism fonts, chalices, altars and all of the that are needed to celebrate the sacraments.

• Because the bishops wear those awesome hats!

What is the "matter" of the sacraments?

• The physical thing that we use in the sacraments.

• It is what the priest says

• It is what the priest does

What is the 'form' of a sacrament?

• What the priest uses in the sacrament

• The actions that are done when it is celebrated.

• The words that are spoken when the Sacrament is celebrated.

What is a 'Minister' of a sacrament?

• The person who performs the actions (uses the matter) and speaks the word (the form) of the sacrament.  Usually a priest, bishop or deacon

• The person who is running the country (the Prime Minister) or who helps the Prime Minster to run the country.

• The priest that we know the best
