Why might we have to Shelter in Place?

• It's cold outside

• There is police activity in the area

• Our teachers are bored and like to switch things up

• There is an intruder on campus

What should you do if you are outside and there is an earthquake?

• Run in to the nearest building

• Stand outside of the nearest building

• Go to open area (away from things that might fall down), get down low and stay until shaking stops

• Find a tree to hide under

What should I do if I'm in class and we need to evacuate?

• Look to see what everyone else is doing

• Find your friends outside and stand next to them

• Run as fast as you can out of the room

• Leave belongings in the room

  Move calmly to the evacuation area 

  Stay with your class at all times for roll call

What will I hear in the event of a lockdown?

• "Emergency!"

• "Run! Hide! fight!"

• “Lockdown. Locks, Lights, Out of Sight”

• "Evacuate!"

What should I do if I'm outside and we go into "Secure"?

• Ignore it, probably not a big deal

• Go straight to your classroom (if during class). 

  Go straight to your next class (if during passing period or lunch)

• Hide under desk, stay slient

• Run!

In the case of a shelter, I will hear:

• “Shelter…” (Then the hazard and directions)

  eg "Shelter, severe thunderstorms

• "MOVE! Get outta here!"

• "Lockdown!"

• "Evacuate!"

What should I do if I'm inside and there is a lockdown?

• Run to a safe location

• Move away from windows and down onto the floor

  Find shelter behind or under furniture 

  Stay calm and be patient

• FInd your first period class

• Keep working on your assignments

What do I do if there is a lockdown and I'm outside?

• Find an adult

• Go to your first period class

• Get to the closest room/building and follow inside procedures

  If needed, escort students offsite

• Go to an open space

What do I do if there is a "Hold"?

• Look around and follow the crowd

• Run!

• Grab a hand

• Stay where you are until you receive further instructions

I feel safe on campus

• Yes!

• Most of the time

• I'd have questions about campus safety

• Not really
