IT standard is an established norm or requirement in regard to information technology systems in industries according to its needs and requirements. It is usually a formal document that establishes uniform technical or software criteria, methods, processes and practices.

IEEE sets standards for most types of electrical interfaces. Its most famous standard is probably RS-232C, which defines an interface for serial communication.
