General safety practice

If you are injured while working you should

• keep working

• report it to your teacher

• tell your parents when you get home

• report it to the principal

All students must wear eye protection in the shop area because

• it's the state law

• the teacher requires each student to wear eye protection

• the school board requires eye protection in shop areas

• all of the above

The first thing one should do when operating a new tool is

• plug in the cord

• disassemble it

• read the instruction manual

• determine if it will pass the "drop test"

If a tool is equipped with a three prong plug and only a two prong receptacle is available one should

• cut the ground pin off

• install a U-adapter and attach the ear to a known ground

• bend the ground plug out of the way

• install a U-adapter and remove the grounding ear

Guards on equipment should be

• removed if they interfere with your work

• kept in place

• kept in working order

• keep in place AND in working order

Cluttered areas and benches invite

• accidents

• an accident-free environment

• no problems whatsoever

• a "homey" atmosphere

To avoid electric shock AND fires, do not expose electric tools to

• damp locations

• wet locations

• flammable liquids and gases

• all of the above

Visitors in the shop should be

• kept at a safe distance and not allowed contact with tools

• encouraged to participate actively

• told to "get out of the shop!"

• allowed to operate sharp tools

When not in use, tools

• may be left on the bench

• should be stored in their proper place

• pushed out of the way on the bench

• should be left for the instructor to pick up

A tool will do the job better and safer if it

• is not forced

• is forced

• is not sharp

• is used on a job for which it isn't designed
