Ethics in Qualitative Research

Ethical issues occur in all except:

• The beginning of research

• Prior to conducting the research

• In reporting the data

• When doing the literature research

To solve ethics prior to conducting the study, ensure that you do not:

• Seek permission from the IRV

• Give credit for work done on the project

• Identify and go through local approvals for the site

• Select a site with a vested interest in the outcome of the study

When collecting data:

• Build trust

• Don't ask for permission

• A little deception is okay

• Discussion of the data used is prohibited

When reporting data:

• Data and conclusions can be slightly adjusted

• Identify interviewees

• Communicate in clear language

• Plagiarize to conceal evidence

In designing the structure of a proposal, the researcher should:

• Be conventional in their approach

• Study a unique sample and focus on a timely topic

• Collect typical forms of data

• Observe a common field site

In adhering to the general writing structure of the proposal the researcher should:

• Only report findings at the end of the research

• Never list the references cited

• Include only some documents in the appendices

• Describe the procedure guiding the study

Types of Qualitative Research include:

• Narrative and Case Study

• Ethnography and Experimental

• Phenomenology and Mixed Research

• Grounded Theory and Quasi-experimental

Qualitative Research is appropriate when:

• The researcher when a complex detailed understating is needed

• The researcher wants to write in expository flexible style

• The researcher seeks to create the context for the research

• The researcher wants to use a mixed method study
