What is an Earthquake?

• It is the abrupt rupture or movement along faults, plate boundaries and weakened areas

Do Earthquakes occur around the world in random locations or do they occur in specific regions or within specific geologic features?

An Earthquake just hit North Conway New Hampshire. During the quake, you felt the ground rumble and your belongings were falling off shelves. Dust and small particles from insulation float out from the walls and ceiling. You run outside where your neighbors are all frantically running around, panicked! You notices houses are damaged and are cracking but no buildings fall. Shaking stops and what is left behind are belongings tipped over, cracked walls and cracked and shifted pavement. What magnitude Earthquake do you think this was? Explain how you know?
