Safety First

Goggles are worn during science experiments--

• only if you don't have glasses
• to protect your eyes any time chemicals, heat or sediments are used
• to improve vision
• to avoid eye strain

You have been injured in the lab (cut, burned, etc.) First you should -

• apply first aid yourself
• tell the teacher at once
• see a doctor after school
• visit the school nurse after class

The following shoes are BEST to wear when doing science labs.

• open-toed shoes
• sandals
• closed-toed shoes
• slippers

What should you do with chemicals leftover after an experiment?

• Follow the directions of the teacher
• Carefully pour them down the sink
• Throw them into the trash can
• Leave them on the table

You picked up a dirty test tube with a sticky substance on the outside. You get some of this substance on your hand. What should you do?

• wash your hands and tell your teacher
• wipe your hands on a classmate
• wipe your hands on your pants
• try to figure out what the sticky substance is

The FIRST thing a student should do in a science investigation is -

• read the steps of the investigation
