One day, when he was fishing in the river, he got a beautiful goldfish. He brought the fish home. When he was about to cook the fish, suddenly the fish turn into a beautiful woman. Later, Toba found out that the beautiful woman was cursed. The beautiful woman asked Toba to not tell everyone about the curse. “You must promise me, that you will never tell a soul that I was a fish.” Toba agreed to keep the secret only if the woman agreed to get married with him. Then, the two got married and soon had a son named Samosir. Soon, Samosir grew up becoming a glutton. He really liked to eat so much food.
One day, the mother asked Samosir to bring lunch to the father who was working in the rice field. On the way to meet his father, samosir kept on eating his father’s lunch until there was almost no food left in his father’s lunch box. When Toba received the lunch box from Samosir, he was so furious when he found that that the food was almost empty. Then, he shouted at Samosir, “You are a greedy Fish Kid!!! How dare you eat my food!”. Samosir was so shocked to see his father shouting at him. He cried and ran back home. Then, Samosir told his mother about what had happened. “Mother, why would father call me a Fish Kid?” asked Samosir.
The mother was so shocked to hear that. She was so disappointed to find out that her husband broke the promise to keep the curse secret. Suddenly, the mother and Samosir disappeared. In exchange of their disappearances, a lake and a small island emerged to the surface. Soon, people called the lake as Toba Lake and the small island in the middle of the lake as Samosir Island.
