• adequate cough

• systolic >180 mmHg

• Absences of excessive secretions

• Respiratory rate greater than 40 breath/min

How do you know when a patient is ready to be weaned?

• PEEP greater 8 with an FiO2 of .6

• When the patient is fighting the ventilator
