Historians use 2 different types of dating; __ __ dating

Examining artefacts in layers of soil, with the ones on top being more recent than those below.

Using the growth rings on trees to count the age of a tree. Roughly one new ring per year. Different widths also show positive conditions at the time.

A method of dating that measures how much fluoride has been absorbed by bones, to show how long they have been buried.

A type of absolute dating

Traditions told through spoken stories and songs. For example, the stories of the Dreaming which explain how landforms were made, and which places hold special significance.

Evidence of human activity which has been excavated (carefully dug up) from a site (historic place of interest).

• Radiocarbon dating
