When Jesse awoke, why did he have a horrible realization that it was still raining?

• Jesse had a horrible realization that it was still raining because he would have to tell Leslie that he wasn't going to Terabithia. However, not going to Terabithia because he was afraid wasn't the problem. The fact that he was afraid, that he had no guts, is what really bothered him.

• Jesse had a horrible realization that it was still raining and he would get soaked going to Terabithia with Leslie and he didn't want his clothes to be wet. He was brave, but didn't like wet clothes.
