Stacy tried out for her local soccer team. A fast and skilled player, she impressed the team coach as having what it would take to join the team. The boys in the team seemed less impressed and ignored her through the session. As she left in the car with her Dad, she noticed the boys had cornered the coach and seemed to be talking excitedly. The coach told her a day later that unfortunately, she hadn't made the mark and wouldn't be able to join the team. This was despite the fact that in her previous team she had been the top scorer. What happened?

Raven overheard two of the girls in her class planning to go to a party. She started chatting with them and asked whose party they were going to, and if could she join them. They looked awkwardly at each other and said that she wouldn‟t be able to go. Seren asked what the problem was, as she knew the other girl really well. Later, on a social networking page, she noticed a message that read, „”Like”, if you think ginger nuts are dorks‟. She noticed that both of these girls had left messages online that were uncomplimentary about people with red hair.

Gareth is 14 and lives with his disabled Dad and older sister. His Dad was in a car accident that resulted in him having a brain injury. As a result Gareth’s Dad can no longer walk unaided, has difficulty with speech and suffers from epilepsy. Although his Dad his happy for Gareth’s friends to come to the house to hang out, they make excuses why they can’t come around and Gareth is becoming increasingly lonely and left out of their activities. When he confronted one of his friends about this she said that many of his group were freaked out by his dad and didn’t want to hang out with him anymore.

Ravi is a Hindu. He has made friends with a few of the boys in his class. One of his friends was having a 16th birthday party. Everyone had received an invitation except Ravi. Ravi thought that this was an oversight on the boy‟s behalf and turned up with some of the others on the night of the party. He was stopped on the door and asked for his invitation. He explained that he hadn‟t received one but was a friend of the boy concerned. The adult on the door said, no invitation no entry and sent him away. The next day when he went to school, his friend apologised to him saying that his Dad paid for the party and when he saw Ravi‟s name on the party list, he had kicked off. He said his Dad was not religious and wouldn‟t have anything to do with anyone who was.
