MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION

5 mins • 1 pt

There are many thoughtful ways to express your love for another person without spending money: you could write a song or cook a meal, but perhaps the best way to express yourself is to create a card. Creating a card is easy if you have the proper materials. Get yourself some nice, thick resume paper or cardstock and fold it in half. Draw some imagery of love on the front of the card; if you're not good at drawing, you can clip out pictures. If you decide to use markers, be careful not to let them bleed through the paper and ruin the other side. Lastly, write a poem or heartfelt statement on the inside to your beloved and you're done. Now isn't that a much better way to express your love than a rose from the gas station?

How do the SUPPORTING DETAILS contribute to the CENTRAL IDEA and the TEXT STRUCTURE of the passage?

The supporting details outline why buying a flower from the gas station isn't a good way to show someone you love them, and they compare and contrast that idea to making a card instead.

The supporting details explain why making a card is a good choice to show someone you love them, and they provide the information critical to describing the sequential steps of making a card.

The supporting details describe how to use markers to make the best card, and state the problems markers can cause when making a card for someone you love.

The supporting details support the option of adding a poem or other note to a card in order to show someone you love them, and outlines the effects of that choice as compared to buying a flower from a gas station.

Hummingbird Migration

Migration News: April 22, 2016

By Mary Hosier

Hummingbirds surge north on the winds, making 2016 an early migration season. Females have arrived in Hoschton, Georgia.

News: A River Of Wind

Ruby-throats were carried north on a river of wind over the weekend. Some flew 500 miles beyond the leading edge - up to Minnesota, Michigan, Ontario, and into the northeast. "This is the earliest spring migration I've ever mapped," wrote Lanny Chambers, hummingbird bander and our consulting expert, "but its progression up the major river valleys has been quite typical." "Twelve years ago, my first sighting was in mid-May. Now males start arriving between April 10th and 15th," reported Leonard in Nottingham, New Hampshire on April 15th. "Our feeder goes out when the Bradford Pear blossoms open, which was yesterday, April 15th. Today we had our first hummingbird, a male." wrote Jean in Elmhurst, Illinois.

Other Western Species:

Rufous are moving further east with more sightings in Montana this week. Calliopes, Broad-tails, and Black-chinned hummingbird populations are being sighted. Many endured recent cold and snowfall in the Colorado and New Mexico Rockies.

According to the passage, what is one of the MOST SIGNIFICANT changes to the migration of hummingbirds over the years?

The first hummingbird seen on April 15th, 2016 was a male

The hummingbirds are moving farther east than before

There are more species of hummingbirds now than there was a decade ago

Hummingbirds are flying north almost a month earlier than they used to
