Lab Safety Is Not...

Lab safety is NOT

• Disinfecting work areas before and after labs

• Making sure food is on the back of lab counter

• labeling everything clearly

• cleaning up spills with care

Lab safety is NOT

• Using the emergency shower when a part of my skin is exposed to chemicals and my clothes are covered in chemicals.

• Dispose of all chemical waste properly. Never pour chemicals in sink drains.

• Seeking medical assistance for a classmate that faints in the lab

• Washing your eyes in the sink when accidently exposed to chemicals

Lab safety is NOT

• Wearing eye glasses to protect your eyes in the lab

• Pulling your hair back

• Wearing a lab coat or lab apron

• Wearing closed-toe shoes

Lab safety is NOT

• Working diligently with your lab partners

• Reading the lab instructions prior, and during the lab

• Throwing all waste in the trash can.

• Wearing gloves when working with animals

Lab safety is NOT

• Following your teacher's instruction thoroughly

• Touching chemicals

  unless otherwise instructed to do so by your teacher

• Holding a microscope with one hand while carrying with lab supplies in a lab safety bag

• Keeping your hands away from your face or eyes while in the lab
