Special Education Terminology

This form clearly tells teachers which changes they must make to their teaching in order to help the student with special needs. By law, teachers must implement this document.

This annual meeting is required by law for each student receiving special education services. In attendance are the special education teacher, a general education teacher, an administrator, the student with special needs, and the student's parents / guardians.

This group of students constitutes most of the special education population. These students may have difficulties in reading, writing, listening comprehension, auditory processing, mathematical reasoning, or calculation.

A physical disability in which the student is unable to screen out any outside noises and distractions. Everything is heard at once so the student has trouble focusing on any one thing.

This is a relatively new approach to teaching students with special needs. Students are kept in the general education classroom. The teacher tries a series of interventions to teach the student with special needs. If an intervention doesn't work, then a stronger intervention is tried by the teacher.
