Read the passage below and answer the following question in a complete sentence.

Once upon a time, in the far-away land of Greece, there lived a beautiful maiden named Medusa. She believed that she was the most beautiful maiden in all of Athens. One day, when fetching water for her father, she became so distracted by her reflection that she forgot the water completely! Medusa thought she was very beautiful, which caused her to have a few friends. Many would grow tired of her boasting and felt that she might draw the wrath of the gods if she continued to brag about her beauty. The goddess Athena enjoyed listening in on her people. "I'm as beautiful as a goddess," said Medusa one morning to an old woman sitting on a stone bench feeding some birds. "You should care how you speak, Medusa, for Athena might hear you, and you don't want her wrath. It is not wise to compare yourself to the gods. They can get sensitive." “Nonsense,” Medusa retorted. "She knows I am beautiful, and one day I will be as beautiful as her. Let her come and see for herself. She will be so amazed that she will immediately turn me into a goddess." "Is that so," said the old woman, standing and lowering her gaze to Medusa. Sensing something was amiss, the birds took a flight to a nearby tree and sat to watch. Completely unaware that the woman was glaring at her, Medusa brushed back a strand of golden hair and continued looking at herself in the window's reflection. "Even Zeus will want to claim me as a daughter." In the next breath, the old woman's features changed to reveal her true self. Medusa turned and stepped back with a gasp. "Athena! I… didn’t…” "Foolish, girl," Athena interrupted her with a frustrated wave. "Beauty is only skin deep. It does not feed the hungry or cure the sick. I shall make you more hideous than your nightmares for your pride." Medusa's features began to twist and distort with a wave of Athena's hand until she shrieked. Venomous snakes snapped and hissed atop her head. "Noo..please!" "It is too late. Any man who shall look upon your gaze will be turned to stone. You are now a gorgon and must be banished from Athens. Perhaps, in time, you will learn what it means to be humble." And with those words, Medusa was sent to live at the ends of the earth where no innocents may chance to look upon her and turn to stone.
