Factoring Polynomials (various methods)

A GCF means to ​ (a)   each part of the polynomial by the same factor.

Keep the GCF, and in parentheses show what is left.

• divide
• multiply
• subtract
• choose

Factor out the GCF:
10x³ - 15x

• x(10x² - 15)
• 5x(2x² - 3)
• 5(2x³ - 3x)
• 5x²(10x - 3)

Factor using GCF:

9m⁴ + 27m²

• 9m²(m² + 3)

• 9(m⁴ + 3m²)

• m²(9m² + 27)

• 3m(3m² + 9)

Factor in simplest form (Using GCF):

4a³b⁵ - 18a²b³ + 8a³b³

• 4a²b³ (ab² - 4 + 2a)

• 2a²b³ (2ab² - 9 + 4a)

• 2a²b³ (2ab - 9ab + 4)

• a²b (4ab - 18a²b³ + 8ab²)
