Adjectives are words that describe nouns. Adverbs are words that describe verbs. Adverbs tell how or in what manner a verb is performed. Look at the English words below and decide which are adjectives and which are adverbs.

You may have noticed that many adverbs are based on adjectives. To form an English adverb, you can usually add -ly to the adjective. In French, you can add -ment to a French adjective to form an adverb. Look at the French adjectives and adverbs below and place them in the proper category.

To form an adverb from a French adjective, the French adjective must end in a vowel. Some masculine adjectives such as "difficile" and "facile" end in a vowel already. If it does not, then you must use the feminine form as the base, then add -ment to the feminine form.
