If you would like another user to only see a shared document without making changes:

• Assign them Can edit rights.

• Assign them Can view rights.

• Never share the document with them.

• Save the document to your local or network drive.

If you would like another user to have permission to make changes to a shared document:

• Assign them Can edit rights.

• Assign them Can view rights.

• Never share the document with them.

• Save the document to your local or network drive.

To retrieve a copy of a previous version of a document when using Word Online:

• Assign another user Can edit rights.

• Open the document from another computer.

• Never share the document with another user.

• Use the Version history feature and restore your document to a previous version.
