Single to left field: bases empty

• Back up any throw to 2b

• Centerfielder

• Cover 3rd base

• 2nd Baseman

• Pursue ball, line up between LF & 2b

• Shortstop

• Cover second base

• Pitcher

• Run to back up leftfielder

• Third baseman

Single to right: bases empty

• Cover 2b

• Shortstop

• Ready for throw from OF move inside base

• Left Fielder

• Move toward infield back up throw or 3rd

• First Base

• Pursue ball; line up between RF & 2b

• Right Fielder

• throw out runner or to cut off man

• 2b

Single to left: runner on first, or runners on first & third. ​ (a)   : Back up SS & Cover 2b. ​ (b)   : Lineup between LF and 3rd base to receive cut off. ​ (c)   : Back up short & cover 3b. ​ (d)   : Follow flight of ball, back up 3b.

Single to center: runner on second, or runners on

first and second, or bases loaded.

​ (a)   : Cover home plate. ​ (b)   : Take the cut-off

position near the mound for a throw to

home plate. ​ (c)   : Field the hit, listen for the left or right fielder's instructions, throw to one of the cut-off men: the shortstop or the first baseman. ​ (d)   : Back up the home

plate. ​ (e)   : Take the cut-off position

for a throw to third base.

Double, possible triple down the left field line: bases empty.

• ​ (a)   : Cover home plate

• ​ (b)   Make sure the batter

  touches first base; then trail the runner

  to second base

• ​ (c)   : Go to the trail

  position behind the shortstop. Stay near

  second base

• ​ (d)   : Take the cut-off position

  down the left field line

• ​ (e)   : Field the hit and make the

  cut-off throw to the shortstop
