In a closed circuit...

• There is a complete path, the electrons are in motion and the lights, motors, etc all work.

• The electrons are not in motion and none of the loads (lights, motors, etc.) will work.

• The circuit can contain insulators in the path of energy flow and still work.

• The lights will never work.

In an open circuit the lights...

• will all light up

• will light but be dim (not bright)

• will not light up

• will light up if the battery is strong enough

Parallel Circuit

• Contains multiple pathways or branches through which electricity can flow
