Elected governor 4 times (but died before he took office for his 4th term). Did not support the New Deal. Scandal during 3rd term will cause UGA to lose its accreditation. Supported white supremacy and gained most of his votes from rural farmers.

GA Governor and U.S. Senator (seven consecutive terms). chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee-helped to bring military bases to GA. "father of the school lunch program” 

Served in the US House of Representatives for 50 years. (longer than any other congressman in US history). “Father of the two ocean navy”.

President. Started the New Deal programs. Visited Warm Spring to help his polio. President during WWII (died before war ended).

Longest serving of the progressive mayors. He purchased a racetrack that became Atlanta’s first airport (Hartsfield International Airport–today is the busiest airport in the world). “Father of Atlanta Aviation”.

Allowed African Americans police to arrest whites and allowed African Americans to serve as firefighters. By 1964 he desegregated all public facilities (including schools) in ATL. Forward Atlanta (economy boomed). Brought the following to Atlanta: Braves(baseball), Falcons (football), and the Hawks (basketball).

Ga Governor. First governor to serve 4 year term. Reformed GA’s government. Involved in the Three Governors’ Episode.

• Lieutenant Governor during the Three Governors Episode. Became Governor when Eugene Talmadge died until election could be held.

• Eugene Talmadge’s Son.  Involved in the Three Governors’ Episode. Governor for 2 terms and later went to be a U.S. Senator.

• Civil Rights Leader. Born in Atlanta. Developed a non-violent approach to social change after studying others like Gandhi. Founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Gave the “I have a Dream Speech” at the March of Washington
