Year 10 - Image file types

This is the process of reducing the file size by removing some date. There are 3 types of this.

• Compatibility

• Colour depth

• Bitrate

This represents the number of bits used to represent the colour of a pixel, and hence determining the maximum number of colours a pixel can take.

This refers to how well the image file type is read by different software, operating systems and devices.

This refers to the width and height of the image

This refers to how many pixels are displayed per inch of an image. The larger the number of pixels per inch, the sharper, more detailed and higher quality the image is.

This defines how the image is made up. It can either be made up of pixels or can be made up of straight lines that use a mathematical equation that determine how the path is shaped.
