Having stopped and are waiting in traffic you should avoid dazzling drivers behind you by

• applying the footbrake only

• applying the handbrake

• switching off your lights

• using both the handbrake and footbrake

Whilst driving at night in fog the rear lights of the car in front are just visible beyond the range of your headlights. You should drive at a speed so that

• you can stop just beyond the range of your headlights

• the taillights of the vehicle ahead are visible

• you can stop in the distance you can see to be clear

• you can stop before reaching the taillights of the car ahead

Approaching a junction with a major road you see ahead of you yield right of way markings across for the full width of the junction. To turn right you should

• keep to the left lane

• keep to the right lane

• keep just left of centre

• keep right unless there is a traffic queue

Flashing your headlights at or to another driver should be taken to mean

• be aware of my presence

• I am giving you priority

• I intend to come through

• dip your headlights

On leaving the motorway, drivers should be aware that

• they may overestimate their speed

• pedestrians may be walking from the motorway

• traffic may park on the slip road

• they may underestimate their speed

Whilst driving at 120 km/h in the right-hand lane of a motorway carriageway you notice another vehicle following too closely, you should

• increase your speed and the gap between vehicles

• take no action as the following driver cannot legally drive any faster

• move left when safe to allow the vehicle to overtake

• flash your rear fog lamps as a warning

When may you stop on the hard shoulder of a motorway?

• when tired and in need of a rest from driving

• if directed to do so by a Garda

• to answer a call on your mobile telephone

• to read a map if unsure of your exit route

When turning right out of a narrow side road to a major road you should position your car

• as far left as possible

• just left of centre

• over the centre

• as close to the middle of the road as is safe

You wish to go straight across a dual carriageway with a narrow central reserve and heavy traffic. You should

• move to the centre section, positioning your car as best you can then check the other lane is clear then cross

• wait until both lanes are clear and drive straight across

• turn left and then turn right at the next junction

• do not worry, if you need to block the first carriageway whilst waiting for a gap

Whilst driving you see in the road ahead, horses with riders. You should

• slow down look out for any signal given by a rider

• sound you horn to warn the riders of your presence

• ignore any signals given by the rider

• get past as quickly as you can
