How does the airbag control unit detect side collision on a Mazda 3 BP chassis

• It is located inside the door panel, as a collision happen it increases the pressure in the door panel causing it to detect a change of pressure. Therefore, signaling a crash at the side

• It is located at B pillar, it is a switch type that detects a crash when the collision crumple the switch sensor causing a short circuit. Therefore, signaling a crash at the side

• Using Yaw rate sensor, the yaw rate detects an unexpected angular velocity by the crash therefore, signaling a crash at the side

• By using TCS control unit, it has allot of other sensor to calculate the side crash such as Yaw rate, roll rate, wheel speed and others

Why does an airbag have 2 inflators?

• 1 inflator is not enough to withstand the weight or force of an occupant towards the airbag during crash. So both will deploy at the same time

• As a backup deployment incase 1 of the inflators expired or malfunction

• Depending on the impact, it will either inflator 1 or both. As different impact speed will create different force of the occupant towards the airbag

• To be able to reuse the airbag if the second inflator not deployed after the accident
