Define Small Group Intervention (SGI)

• SGI is time used to extend current lesson instruction

• SGI is used to intervene and grow student understanding of previous learning gaps

• SGI is time to allow student to randomly work on ST Math

• SGI snack time or lunch

• At a ready to engage students Kidney Table

• At recess underneath the tree

• At students desk and the teacher is teaching from the smart board in front of the class

Who leads small group instruction?

• Coaches

• Paraprofessional

• Student

• Teacher

What should other students be doing during small groups?

• Meet with teacher

  1. Lexia/Epic

  2. Read to self

  3. Comprehension (interactive notebook, writing, assignments, phonics)

• Sleeping

• Playing educational game

• Coloring Sheets

When should small group intervention take place?

• When I feel like it/ Whenever I can get to it

• When I ran out of other things to do

• Daily and on schedule

• When I know admin is visiting my classroom

What should small group instruction look like?

• Random busy work

• Puzzles and work sheets
