What is the Commutative Property?

The Commutative Property states that changing the order of numbers in addition or multiplication does not change the result. For example, 3 + 4 = 4 + 3 and 2 x 5 = 5 x 2.

The Associative Property states that the way numbers are grouped in addition or multiplication does not change the result. For example, (2 + 3) + 4 = 2 + (3 + 4) and (1 x 2) x 3 = 1 x (2 x 3).

The Distributive Property states that multiplying a number by a group of numbers added together is the same as doing each multiplication separately. For example, a(b + c) = ab + ac.
